Vera Caslavska conquers again mexico after 42 years!

This outstanding gymnast who won 4 gold and 2 silver Olympic medals was recently invited by the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon Hinojosa, to take part in Mexico’s 200’s Independence Celebrations. She is still very popular in this country- her great Olympic achievements here in 1968 are still remembered. She received a tremendous welcome in Mexico City.

This remarkable woman who did more for the image of the Czech Republic than all of the Czech politicians combined is not fully appreciated in her own country. Elsewhere she would have been repeatedly invited to radio-and television studios for interviews- in the Czech lands it does not happen. Her excellent speech presented in Japan on February 7, 1990 was never published in her own country and it is very sad.
